Reba (Reba McEntire) hires Van (Steve Howey) to be her assistant at the real estate agency. Van is late to work and Reba lectures him on the importance of being punctual, prepared, and professional. Reba tells Barbra Jean (Melissa Peterman) that Barbra Jean was right in being skeptical about Van's real estate abilities. Van interfered with one of Reba's sales to a couple by shooting hoops with the husband. Moments later, however, Van rushes in and announces he has sold the house to the couple.
Reba cannot believe what she has heard, but Van explains that he played basketball with the husband so that he could see the neighborhood feel. Reba claims she is happy for Van, but her tone reveals that she resents his making the sale. Van proposes a partnership: Montgomery-Hart. Reba says they can't be partners because Van doesn't have his real estate license. Van explains his ability to act himself versus Reba's sternness make him a better salesman. Reba wells up and fires Van. Brock (Christopher Rich) tells Reba he understands why she is jealous of Van, but that she should relax and be herself, and then she will better be able to sell houses. The next day, Reba enters Van's room at around noon where Van is still sleeping. Reba apologizes to Van and tells him to get to work. She tells him that he taught her something, and that by being relaxed she sold a house that morning. From her, Van can learn about being punctual and prepared. Just then Reba sees an empty liquor bottle in Van's closet. He admits that he's been having a hard time since leaving football, but acknowledges that he could be excellent at real estate. Van promises not to let drinking ruin this potential. Cheyenne (Joanna Garcia) enters Van's room, senses something is wrong, and Van tells her that Reba found her empty bottle of liquor.

Brock (Christopher Rich) enlists Reba's (Reba McEntire) help when his estranged father dies. Reba reluctantly agrees, although she believes Barbra Jean (Melissa Peterman) should help Brock instead. Reba and Brock decide on a small family only funeral, the way Brock's father would want it. Later, Barbra Jean, who never met Brokck's father, decides the plans for the funeral are insufficient. At the same time Van (Steve Howey) tries to persuade Cheyenne (Joanna Garcia) to name the baby after a sports figure. When Cheyenne returns from the ultrasound appointment later that day, she happily announces she is having a girl. Disappointed Van continues to insist that the ultrasound may be wrong, and he rejects all female baby names Cheyenne suggests. Van is convinced he will not be a good father to a girl, because he assumed he would teach a boy about sports. He can't imagine what he would be able to impart to a young girl. Cheyenne's brother, Jake (Mitch Holleman) wakes up after a bad dream, and Van comforts him. Cheyenne points out that girls have bad dreams too, and she insists Van will be a good father to a girl too. He is relieved and happy and the couple agree on the name Laura.
Brock and Reba agree that his father would not want the kind of funeral Barbra Jean is planning, and Brock has him cremated. Later that night, Brock asks Reba to go with him to scatter the ashes on the golf course where Brock's father died. A police officer (Kenneth Choi) arrives and arrests them. At the police station Reba blames Brock for the trouble they are in, but she also tells him some nice things his father said about him. Brock starts to cry and says he blew things with his father - and with Reba. Reba cautions Brock not to say things he will be sorry for tomorrow. Brock realizes his life and marriage with Reba are really over. Determined to be a better father than his own, Brock takes Jake to the golf course. He tells him he loves him, and they scatter the ashes together.

In a strange twist of fate, the Cranes discover that the plumbers they've hired are the Kriezel brothers, Danny (John C. McGinley) and Billy (Mike Starr), who used to torture them in junior high school. Though Niles angrily yet successfully confronts his old nemesis, Frasier claims he wants to remain calm, according to the rules of professional psychiatry.

Rose is following Dorothy around with a video camera, trying to get candid shots for the final project in her video class. Blanche and Sophia want to be in Rose's video, but Dorothy is afraid she'll end up looking like "Fess Parker in heels." Meanwhile, Blanche is excited to receive an invitation for her college sorority's reunion. She is thrilled to show them how she has "grown more unbelievably devastating with each passing day."
But Blanche comes home a day early from the reunion. It seems every one of Blanche's sorority sisters looked gorgeous...and ageless, as they had all gotten face-lifts. After the ladies screen Rose's video, Blanche feels her suspicions are confirmed: "My stunning looks are starting to fade." Blanche decides her only course of action is to go to a plastic surgeon and be made "perfect." In discussing her case, the surgeon becomes more interested in her than her surgery, and the two plan a date. Blanche cancels her surgery, feeling much better about herself, for, as she explains it, "He can create any face and body he wants, and what he wanted was mine." [CC] [TV-PG D] |
