I must say, I join with the others in complete disgust that this show is being pulled from the lineup. I am 33, and have been watching this show since it came on the air in 1985. I also have been watching since it came on Lifetime in 1997 or so.
If you are familiar with cable television, you will realize that Lifetime is owned by Viacom, which also owns many other cable networks. One only has to look to TV Land, and see that their so-called "original programming" is beyond asinine. People come to rely on certain channels for certain things. I want to watch certain channels for certain things. I don't want to tune in to Lifetime and see a last rate dancing competition. What I am trying to say about Viacom is that certain of their networks, such as TV Land, are moving away from their tried and true to broadcast pure nonsense. It's not even like these shows are good.
I don't know where I read this, but Lifetime averages 1 million viewers of their 1 a.m. airing of the Golden Girls, and that includes myself and many viewers here. Now, I am not the new CEO, but those are good numbers. Why mess with a good thing? I don't when these TV executives will not get that we don't want asisine new original programming. If I wanted that, I'd look to network TV. There are VERY few good shows left on regular TV. I look to reruns, particularly the Golden Girls, for good entertainment.
Don't any of you fret, though--move to Hallmark or WE, or wherever this is being broadcast. They will welcome our viewership. I just have to say, this is very disappointing and disgusting to me as a longtime viewer. Also, I read that the Nanny is leaving in 09 as well, another show I watch. I watch Frasier, The Golden Girls, and The Nanny. With two of those gone, I'm sure Frasier is just a matter of time, also.
But know this--I WILL be going where my favorite shows do.
And another thing--what original programming? These so-called new movies are nothing but last rate movies from the CBC and CTV. The plots are unoriginal, the stories are not good, and it's the same old same old. That one girl with green eyes and big lips is in almost every movie. I guarantee the next thing to go is the reruns of old movies, and Lifetime Original Movies as well.

I haven’t contacted WE, but I did email Hallmark. I clicked on the feedback link and told them that the “Golden Girls” has a large fan base, we hope they plan to air the show daily, and said that currently, it is often preempted for newer shows and we were tired of it. I received a reply that same day that said, “’The Golden Girls’ is my favorite show….they wouldn’t dare pre-empt them with some other program.” This sounds promising…
