Based on a true story. Single mom Josie Aimes (Charlize Theron) moves back to her Northern Minnesota hometown in hopes of providing her children a better life. When her friend Glory (Frances McDormand) encourages her to take a mining job, Josie refuses to tolerate the harassment that she and the other female miners encounter from their male coworkers. Despite being at odds with her community and her family, she rallies her female coworkers and stands up for what she believes in.

I know where Josie Aimes is coming from. I came from the part of the U.S where women are considered property. A man can do what he wants when he wants and nobody does anything about it. Rape is not prosecuted whether it be marriage or non consintual. I was a rape victim and I conceived a child out of it and I gave my child up for adoption. I tried to prosecute and I was shunned by my family and my friends. In my family a child whether conceived by rape or out of marriage they are to be kept no matter what. I am glad she had the balls to do what was right. I am glad that women are willing to go the extra mile to make laws for women.

This movie rocks,but it's shameful what that teacher did to her.Those men in the coal mines need to get a grip what LOSERS!!!!!!!!They need to treat a women with respect!!!!!

The movie North Country is a must see for all women. This lady stood up for what she believed in. very good movie. I also watched Memory keepers Daughter, what a wonderful movie. Heart renchen at times,but had a nice ending to it. The nurse in this movie was amazing. I would have done the same thing she did,save a baby's life. What a darling lady?

We also had seen the "Memory Keeper's Daughter", Yet another beautiful "Movie" for a Sunday afternoon~!!

First of all thankyou very much for this opportunity~!
How much I Loved "North~Country"~ and how much I could "Relate", too the Anita Hill~Judge Thomas Case, as well~! When it comes too "Woman" & their Independance, & their struggles etc.. I can't help but shed tears, myself, due too putting my own abuse, in the backburner, if u will, in order, for my own "Life" to go on~!!
Regrets yes~ many~! Hopefully one day I will make a Big defference in "Womens" Lives as well~!!
I'm sorry, but I could go on & on~!
Thank you~ Lifetime for sharing & inspiring us women, with your "Based ON True Story: Episodes, perhaps, one day I shall tell my own, & take it out from the "BackBurner"~??
