A: Moving out is the best thing you can do. You and your mother share many planets in common, and so she sees a lot of herself in you. Sometimes this manifests as "stage mother syndrome," which is when a mother pushes her child to be all the things she couldn't be. In your case it's the opposite. Your mother puts you down because she didn't feel like she was good enough and so she doesn't want you to suffer the same disappointments. Somewhere along the way she decided that you're only capable of so much and she's going to make sure you don't get your hopes up. Believe it or not, she thinks she's being protective.
According to your charts, you both have Jupiter in independent-minded Aries. Jupiter is the liberator in astrology and it also happens to be your ruling planet. What this means is you have to go on out there in the world and fulfill yourself as a person. You're extremely capable and self-sufficient, and you'll go very far. Over time your mother will come to recognize your successes and feel inspired by them. You'll find that she changes from your harshest critic into your biggest fan.
Q: My daughter wants me to move in with her family this year. Will everything work out? Will I sell my house? My birthday is 10/3/34. —Shirley
A: You were born under sociable Libra, so you need to be surrounded by people. You're drawn to groups and thrive on lively conversation. Your ruling planet. Venus, in Virgo shows that you're remarkably self-reliant and will always bring something to the table. Whether it's sage advice, a shoulder to lean on or a helping hand, you are always there for others, so it's nice to see that you're giving others a chance to be there for you. I can see you as being a happy and welcome addition to your daughter's household.
Selling your house could take until May 2009. Saturn is currently traveling through Virgo, and whenever Saturn is in an earth sign there is a downturn in the economy. The last time Saturn was in an earth sign (Taurus) was late 1998 through early 2001 — which is when we saw the collapse of the dotcoms (renamed dotbombs). Saturn, planet of reality checks, punctures speculative bubbles and brings them back down to earth.
Yet you could sell in late October 2008 — but for less than what you want, so it depends on how urgently you need the money. It's why you're better off renting until you can sell in 2009, when you'll get a better price. Meanwhile, don't make moving in with your daughter's family contingent on the sale of your house. It's cheaper living with them, and you'll be happier too.
Q: I (born 12/19/83) met an awesome guy. He (4/6/80) is everything that I could ever imagine and ask for. Then recently he said that he felt like things needed to slow down, and that he had some things to deal with and work out. Do you see a future, or am I stuck again with my heart on the line? —Brandy
A: I'd believe him when he says that he has some things to deal with and work out. He's in the midst of his Saturn return this year, and that's always a really heavy time. Saturn takes 28 to 30 years to go around the zodiacal clock, and it's when Saturn "returns" to the place where it was at the time of your birth that you face your steepest challenges, so this is a make-or-break time for him right now. The fact that he's telling you this says that he's responsible and takes you seriously.
It also wouldn't be a bad idea for you to slow down. You have four planets in Sagittarius, which means you come on strong, get super excited in the moment and then lose interest. That's the nature of being born under a fire sign. He was born under a fire sign, too, which is why you guys are so hot for each other. But the trick to making a relationship work is to learn how to tend that fire, and that means getting to know each other. Remember that he's asking you to slow down; he's not calling it quits. Downshift and let yourself get to know this guy outside the heat of the moment. It's the best way to judge for yourself whether you have a future together.
