Stop Violence Against Women
The Facts

TOGETHER: WOMEN AND MEN

Ask or encourage men to:

  1. Take a vocal stand at home, school, sporting events, places of worship, etc., opposing violence against women.
  2. Challenge attitudes, language and jokes that degrade women and girls.
  3. Demonstrate positive behavior to boys and girls, relatives and friends. Talk to children about violence and how to treat others with respect.
  4. Support organizations such as V-Day, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), the National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH), the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) and the Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF).
  5. Tell other men to respect women as their equals.
  6. Speak up and/or offer help if they witness disrespectful or abusive behavior toward women.
  7. Communicate clearly with their partners about sex and not make assumptions.
  8. Learn ways to express themselves without violence.
  9. Recognize and educate others that being a "man" does not involve degrading or abusing girls and women.
  10. Continue to educate themselves about violence and ways they can help.
