Lifetime Television will team up with filmmaker Angela Shelton for a special airing of an exclusive version of "Searching for Angela Shelton," as the centerpiece of Lifetime's ongoing Emmy Awardwinning public advocacy campaign, My Lifetime Commitment: Stop Violence Against Women, now in its fifth year.
The recipient of more than 12 awards, the film follows Angela Shelton as she travels across the United States to meet other women who share her name. She discovers that 70% of the other Angela Sheltons have been victims of rape, childhood sexual assault and/or domestic violence. The surprising journey leads Shelton to confront her own history of abuse and learn about forgiveness, faith and the power of the human spirit. The multi-award-winning documentary has started a grassroots movement of healing for survivors of abuse of all genders.

Angela Shelton
Actress and filmmaker Angela Shelton has won accolades for bringing her life to screen with "Tumbleweeds," which she cowrote and produced with Gavin Connors. The movie won a filmmaker's trophy at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival and earned an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe win. Shelton has also received outstanding reviews for her adaptation of Kaye Gibbons' novel, "Charms for the Easy Life," and Balzac's "Old Goriot for Canal." "Searching for Angela Shelton" marks her directorial debut.
Additionally, Shelton is a superhero Safe Side Super Chick who teaches children how to be safe in the Safe Side video series, the brainchild of Baby Einstein creator Julie Clark, and America's Most Wanted creator, John Walsh. Shelton is currently shooting a new Safe Side video and writing a script for a major motion picture studio about her travels while making the documentary.
Shelton has quickly become recognized as one of the more outspoken voices for survivors of trauma. Due to the overwhelming audience response, Shelton has founded the Angela Shelton Foundation with the mission of inspiring and empowering all survivors of abuse to heal and lead joyful lives.
