To select the honorees, Lifetime reached out to its viewers in more than 86 million households to solicit nominations. An independent panel of judges not affiliated with Lifetime — from nonprofit organizations such as the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations, the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the National Hispanic Medical Association, and Business and Professional Women/USA — reviewed thousands of nominations. Lifetime, which recused itself from the selection process, hired an outside agency, p3, to oversee the judges who made the final selections.
